Spa: pleasure and hygiene

Bathing, the leisurely immersion in water, is a universal practice, widespread in all past and present cultures, and it is particularly appreciated by children, for whom bathing is the best opportunity to play and is a huge pleasure in itself.

Places of traditional baths, for regenerating mind and body, tend to be located in areas of mineral waters with special tonic, antiseptic or dermatological properties: spas tend to include as a fundamental aspect, the aspiration of fumes emanating from the waters. Where there is no such water, the most refined cultures have developed proprietary technology to simulate them, such as saunas or steam rooms or modern urban spas.
